Music
Our music curriculum acts as stimuli for creativity and expression in all aspects of music. This develops both individual and collaborative life skills in which all children actively participate.
Aims:
By engaging children in making and responding to music we aim to help children appreciate and achieve musical quality by:
- Developing an understanding and appreciation of a wide range of music from a variety of cultures and societies
- Extending the children’s ability to make judgements of musical quality
- Ensuring that children acquire the knowledge skills and understanding needed to make music
- Developing skills, attitudes and attributes that support other learning and provide children with key life skills e.g. listening skills, collaborative skills, aesthetic sensitivity etc
Music is explored through:
Performing skills
- rehearse then perform to others using voices and instruments (tuned and untuned)
Composing skills
- explore, choose and organise sounds and musical ideas
Appraising Skills
- explore ideas and feelings about music using movement, dance and musical language and make improvements to their own work
Listening and Applying Knowledge and Understanding
- know how the combined musical elements of pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture and silence can be organised and used.
