Staying Safe Online

The internet is a great place to learn, play and connect with others, but it’s important for children to stay safe while using it. Sometimes things can go wrong, such as sharing personal information, posting something they later regret, or experiencing unkind behaviour online.

If your child ever feels worried or unsafe while using the internet including apps like social media, games or chat platforms they should always speak to a trusted adult. You can also report concerns directly through recognised online safety organisations.

ThinkUKnow

ThinkUKnow provides clear, child‑friendly information about popular websites, apps, mobile safety and new technology. It also offers a simple way to report anything that makes a young person feel uncomfortable online.

KidSmart

KidSmart is an internet safety website created by Childnet International. It offers useful guidance for children, parents and schools about staying safe online.

CyberMentors

CyberMentors supports young people who may be experiencing bullying or feeling worried. Trained young volunteers are available online to listen, offer advice and provide a safe space to talk. Professional counsellors are available for more serious concerns.

Children are encouraged to talk to parents, carers or teachers whenever possible, but these additional organisations can offer extra support when they need it.
