Behaviour
Behaviour At Peatmoor Community Primary School we believe that discipline comes from a whole school effort, with the school team working as one. Every child has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach. We take a positive approach to reinforcing good behaviour by genuinely praising our children. Praise is effectively and positively used to good effect and is embedded into the culture within the school. We encourage children to think for themselves, become independent and help them to recognise right from wrong. We have very high expectations for behaviour and most of the time the children rise to this. Our ‘Peatmoor Way’ sets out clearly the expectations.
On occasions, a child for a variety of reasons can behave in a way that is not acceptable. For such occasions, we have a clear consistent approach to dealing with inappropriate behaviour. A copy of the Behaviour Policy is available from the school office and on the school website. Our Behaviour Policy is sent to all parents on starting school. As a staff, we feel it is important that the children have ownership of the school rules and that the policy is developed as a school community. This will be revisited at the start of each year.

Rewards
We celebrate positive behaviour and achievement through a range of rewards and incentives that encourage confidence, kindness, and effort. Children are recognised through weekly awards, golden stars, stickers, celebration assemblies, and whole-class rewards such as “Marbles in the Jar.” Our merit point system allows children to work towards certificates, bookmarks, and special recognition as they progress through different merit levels. Pupils also earn house points for teamwork, positive behaviour, and completing merit cards, with winning houses celebrated each week and term. Exceptional achievements may also be recognised with a special visit to the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher for praise and reward stickers.

Consequences
The school employs several consequences to encourage children to think about and improve their behaviour. We employ sanctions appropriately to each individual situation but try to apply them in a uniform and progressive way. Further information can be found in our Behaviour Policy.
